Implementing Alternative Assessment in the Arabian Gulf
Until very recently, assessment in the Arabian Gulf has focused primarily on high-stakes examinations. However, with the increased popularity of multiple measures assessment, institutions in the region are adopting alternative forms of assessment. This paper provides a rationale for alternative assessment in EF/SL testing. More specifically assessment reform at two government tertiary institutions will be described. Russian GAP assistants' diary
We have just arrived at the Heathrow airport. We are standing now in front of the stall with different brochures about Britain and London, thinking: "Gosh! Almost half a year in a completely unknown place…but, we should try and see as much of Britain as possible!" Now we have to switch our jaws into English. Being Russian
Moscow State University
You can hardly find a Russian person who doesn't know the abbreviation MGU (which becomes MSU in English - Moscow State University). It is often referred to as the flagship of Russian education and science, home to the best brains in the country: the CRÈME DE LA CRÈME for scholars in a variety of fields and academicians interested in research. In 2005 Moscow State University will celebrate its 250th anniversary. We are going to publish a series of articles devoted to this jubilee. The first one is about the MSU history.

Where to Go, What to See
St. Petersburg
This year St Petersburg will celebrate its glorious anniversary. Having grown on the banks of the Neva around the fortress founded in 1703, the city has become the capital of an immense power by the command of Peter the Great. The city changed its name several times. It was called Saint Petersburg, Petrograd, Leningrad, St. Petersburg again. But no matter what the official status of this city was, it has always been the northern capital of Russia. The city witnessed the events that shaped the future of the whole country; it is associated with endless number of people Russia takes pride in. The role of the city and its contribution to European history and world culture can hardly be overestimated.
Switzerland is Heaven
“Switzerland is Heaven”, - said Queen Elizabeth II during her visit to Bern. It sounds rather extreme, but the Queen is not so far from the truth.
