Internet EFL Writing Bibliography

In addition to using books and magazines to find out about EFL writing, why not also use the power of the Internet? The links below will get you started.

Writing Resources for English Language Learners
This site is a great place to start your search for writing resources. It contains the following categories of links: Online Writing Resources, Tips for writers, Organization and style, Mechanics, The Writing Process, Topics for Writing, Research and Writing, Writing for Special Purposes, and Other Resources.



Writing Help

Tips and links to writing projects and sites that help with writing on the Web. The site contains interactive stories. Students choose a plot and characters and write the dialogues. Then they e-mail them to their friends or to the teacher.

Internet TESL Journal (For ESL/EFL Teachers)
The site contains articles on e-mail projects. Students can send their e-mails to their pen-pals, their friends, the webmasters of the websites they visit or to their teachers.

Online template on creating CVs. Recommended for advanced learners. Requires registration (free).

Using the Computer to Teach Writing

The Magazine for English Language Teachers. Methodology. Teaching writing with the Internet for TEFL/ESL.

This web-site is for ESL/EFL students who want to write in English for academic purposes. The material in this site is aimed toward high intermediate or advanced English learners who have never taken a formal English writing course and whose TOEFL score is about 500 or more. The main objective of this site is to help non-native English speakers write for the US academic audience which necessarily includes organization of ideas, the single greatest problem among many non-native speakers.

A super writing resource, this lab includes comprehensive handouts and on-line materials for ESL/EFL writing instruction as well as comprehensive links to other writing related sites.

Writing Across the Curriculum and Writing in the Disciplines
Also part of Purdue University OWL, but listed separately here for those wanting assistance in integrating writing into content-based courses. Also links to other programs with WAC materials.

Teacher's guide explains how to use this resource designed for Grades 7-12. Students expand vocabulary and develop writing skills as they explore cultural, historical and scientific topics. This site is contains activities designed to be used on-line by students, but the articles and photos could also be used in hard copy form in the classroom.

Business English for Teachers and Learners by Linda Thalman at This page was developed for a presentation on 20 September 1997 called "Business, Breakfast and the Internet". It contains many good links for anyone doing content-based instruction in business. In this article, Tom Robb discusses the trade-offs between paper and electronic submission of writing.
